My work in the Scottish Parliament

  • Since 2003 I have continually raised local North East issues in Parliament and in the local media through speaking in debates, at Committees and holding Ministers to account through questions.
  • I am a member of the trade union Unite and have supported a range of trade union campaigns from pressing for extra modern apprenticeships to improved rights for employees in the workplace.
  • As Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Justice I have been a voice for the North East in the Shadow Cabinet. I have also campaigned for more police officers in Grampian and Tayside, more effective action in tackling crime in the region and better access to justice for victims of crime in the North East.
  • I have sought to stay in regular contact with members through attendance at meetings, my office in Aberdeen, my website, newsletters and for rural members our Rural CLPs forum.
